word of god
word a light

Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light for my path. Psalm 119:105 AB

The theme for the reflection of the day is “Word of God, our light”. The journey of life is filled with uncertainties and hurdles. Sometimes it becomes very difficult if not impossible to know which path to follow. But we should rejoice and be glad because God has given us his word to enlighten the path to us.

The psalmist uses two illuminating objects to describe the word of God. The first one is the image of a lamp. The lamp, he says, is for the feet. The light that we get when we use lamp is one that does not go so far that we can see sometimes ahead of us, rather the light from the lamp is meant to give us the clear vision of what lies very close to us. Hence, we have a closer vision of what is within. The expression my feet relates to the whole body. Just as we need light to see objects outside of us, the word of God does not just show us things outside, it brightens the inner chamber of the soul, so that we can be able to understand our very being, our failings, limitation and personality.
Again, the word is a light for my path. The psalmist was very diplomatic in the use of light instead of lamp when relating it to path. The image of light here is such that gives light to the outer world. We see not just our very surroundings but the whole horizon of the long path we are treading, thereby giving an insight into what lies ahead and establishing an opportunity to make proper preparation to face the challenges that lie ahead.

Through the reflection of today, let us make the word of God our lamp and light today and walk in the presence of his glory. May the Lord bless his word in our hearts now and Forever, Amen.
